All children in Michigan enrolled in their first year of school, either kindergarten or 1st

grade, are now required to receive an oral health assessment (dental screening). This requirement

began in the 2024-2025 school year. The Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment Program (KOHA) is administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Schedule your child's dental screening today!

Grand Rapids dentist David A. Boone DDS graduated with honors from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1999 and has been helping the people of West Michigan smile brighter ever since.

After practicing family dentistry for nearly four years in Spring Lake, Michigan, Dr. Boone went on to pursue his desire to open his own family and cosmetic practice, Smiles by Design, in his hometown of Grand Rapids in 2002. In 2010, he purchased Eastern Dental, where he is able to extend his expertise and love for working with the children of West Michigan to help them learn to care for their growing smiles.

As a kid-friendly dentist in Grand Rapids, we treat young children and are the best place to bring your preschooler and school-age child for their first checkup. We realize that a lot of parents don’t bring their child to the dentist until they are much older. This, however, is a mistake. Your child can develop cavities as young as their toddler years and visiting our kid-friendly dentist office, is one way to prevent them.
